Further information about final submission dates for 2020 publication will be available on each of our journal sites. For Journals transitioning to Gold Open Access all papers submitted to IET journals after this date will be published under the Gold Open Access model and subject to APCs. Submissions will be processed through ScholarOne, Wiley’s editorial management system, and if accepted, will be published in a 2021 volume of your chosen journal. The journal will be available on the new IET Engineering & Technology Hub on Wiley Online Library.
Current volumes of all IET journals will remain on IET Digital Library until 31st December 2020, at which point they will transfer to the IET Engineering & Technology Hub on Wiley Online Library and will be made free to access. This applies to all articles published in all volumes from 2013 onwards.

Why has the IET taken this decision?
Funding bodies are increasingly mandating that research paid for by public monies must be made freely accessible and as a result, more countries and institutions are adopting the Open Access mandate. This growing trend has led to fundamental changes to existing publication and business models, with many publishing organisations re-thinking their strategies and processes in order to adapt and thrive in the new Open Access world.
The IET’s ambitious programme to launch new open access journals in key topic areas over the last few years has already helped to achieve an 18% increase in Impact Factor, the quality measure for academic journals. Completing the transition to Open Access will help the IET continue this trajectory and position it as a leading promoter of open research.
Why did the IET choose Wiley?
The IET looked for a partner who not only had the experience to support the transition to fully open access but would also share the IET’s cultural values. After exploring a number of options, the IET selected Wiley, a leading organisation that has pioneered the delivery of content solutions in new and innovative ways.
One such example of innovation is the rise of “publish and read” initiatives which seek to enable large scale transition of scholarly journals to open access. Wiley has been at the forefront of negotiations with leading consortia and institutions around the world, providing thousands of researchers with open access to journals and enabling them to publish their own work open access, at no cost to them. IET journals can now be included in such initiatives, gaining access to Wiley’s extensive networks of authors, libraries and institutions.
What are the Article Processing Charges for IET Journals?

What support is available for APCs?
For authors publishing in Wiley Open Access Journals, Wiley offers waivers and discounts to corresponding authors based in developing countries. The Research4Life initiative offers automatic waivers for certain countries and automatic discounts (50% off the APC price) for a number of other countries. You can find more details of which countries are eligible for both the automatic waivers and discounts. Wiley also has agreements in place with a number of institutions around the world through Wiley Open Access Accounts where support may also be available.
For the IET Journals transitioning to Open Access, does the whole journal and its previous content become Open Access as well?
From January 2021, all articles published in IET journals will be fully Open Access – free to read, download and share, and subject to a CC-BY licence. Content published from 2013 up until the year of the transition will show as Free Access. This means that all copyrighted content published from 2013 will be free to access, download and share, but will not be subject to a CC-BY licence.
If the journal has any backfiles (content pre-2013), these will remain closed behind a paywall.
